What do program fees cover?
Program fees cover tuition, room, board, books, extracurricular activities, and off-campus co-curricular activities.
When are program fees due?
Fees can be paid any time before registration closes. A $350 deposit is required to complete registration and hold your space in the Academy. The balance may be paid in installments before 4:30 p.m. on June 7th.
Does completing the online registration reserve space in the Academy?
Completing the online registration is the first step in the process. Space will be reserved on a first-come-first-served basis once your deposit has been paid.
How do I make payments?
There are three options available for payment:
(1) pay by phone: 301-860-3494 or 301-860-3495;
(2) pay in person: the cashier is located on the first floor of the Henry Administrative Building, or
(3) pay by mail: check is payable to Bowie State University. Send to Student Accounts, Suite 1300, 14000 Jericho Park Road, Bowie, MD 20715.
What happens if the full payment isn’t received by June 8th?
Registrants who have not paid in full by June 7th risk being dropped from the program to make space for waitlisted applicants.
What happens to my deposit if I do not participate in the Academy?
The deposit will be refunded. Refund requests should be directed to the Cashier’s Office.
What courses will I take?
You will enroll in Freshman Seminar and the college-level math course associated with your major.
Do the courses count toward graduation?
Yes, all first-year students are required to complete Freshman Seminar and college-level math. The courses you take this summer will satisfy this requirement and bring you six credits closer to graduation.
Should I sign up for New Student Orientation?
You do not have to sign up for New Student Orientation. You will participate in orientation activities during the Academy.
Will I take placement exams?
You will take placement exams during the first week of the Academy.
When will I register for fall courses?
You will register for fall courses during the first week of the Academy.
May I live off campus?
All participants are required to live on campus. The residential experience is an important aspect of the Academy. Living on campus gives you an opportunity to exercise independence, manage time, bond with classmates, and utilize academic support.
Am I permitted to keep a car on campus?
Participants are not permitted to keep a car on campus. Violators risk being ticketed, towed.
Are visitors permitted on campus during Bulldog Scholars Academy?
We ask that you do not invite guests to campus. You will complete courses in five weeks that would normally take 15 weeks during the regular term. To be successful, you will need to dedicate considerable attention to your studies.
You are permitted to leave campus most Sundays, and you may invite a limited number of guests to our weekend Family Barbecue.
I have a disability. Will the Academy provide accommodations?
We provide reasonable accommodations for students who have registered with the Office of Disability Support Services.
